Roll Camber

The rate of change in wheel inclination angle with respect to change in vehicle roll angle.

Computed by:

SVCROL

Input Variables Used:

Compliance matrix
Track
Average vertical tire rate

Method:

SVC applies opposing unit forces acting vertically at the tire patches. The height difference between the tire patches is:
Dz = C( 3,3 ) - C( 3,9 ) - C( 9,3 ) + C( 9,9 ) + 2/Kt
where Kt is the tire stiffness.
The vehicle roll angle is the rotation of the line through the tire patches:
Av = Dz / track
The wheel inclination is measured with respect to the line through the tire patches and has two components. The first is from the vertical movement of the tire patch, and is the same as the vehicle roll angle. The second is from the rotational compliance at the wheel center due to the vertical force:
Ac = - C( 4,3 ) + C( 4,9 ) (left side)
Ac = - C( 10,3 ) + C( 10,9 ) (right side)
The total wheel inclination is then:
Ai = Av - Ac
The roll camber is then:
RC = ( Av - Ac ) / Av = 1 - Ac / Av
