No Initial Velocity Group
(Template Builder) Build → Parts → No Initial Velocity Group
Defines a group named "no_initial_velocity" of body objects which should be excluded from having initial velocity conditions applied automatically during full vehicle analysis setup (that is, Quasi-Static Straight or Skidpad Set-Up). If the group does not exist, it will be created on-the-fly.
You can add all types of body objects to this group: rigid bodies, flexible bodies, FE-parts and point masses.
The standard behavior for Adams Car full vehicle driving events is to set the initial velocity of all parts to the vehicle speed in the global X-direction, and 0 (zero) in the global Y- and Z-directions. Adams Car will also apply rotational velocities to the wheel parts proportional to the vehicle speed and the given tire radius.
A typical use case for this would be engine components like pistons and connecting rods, which have velocity vectors in all directions (depending on the engine configuration) superimposed to the velocities of the vehicle itself.Another example are rotating parts whose center of mass markers are not on their rotational axis (that is, modelling an imbalance), introducing rapid changing translational velocities perpendicular to the rotation axes.
For such use cases it is recommended to add the body objects to the template's "no_initial_velocity" group and ideally set their initial velocity manually prior to the analysis as well.
