Stress and Strain Recovery
Nonlinear flexible bodies support the recovery of elemental VonMises stress and strain quantities in Adams PostProcessor via Adams Durability. In order for Adams Durability to access these quantities within Adams PostProcessor, you must have selected them on the "Results" tab of the nonlinear flexible body modify dialog. See "Result Requests" for more details. In Adams PostProcessor these quantities can be shown as color contour plots during animation or result sets can be created after an analysis for XY plotting. This capability is enabled within Adams PostProcessor by loading the Adams Durability plugin. For details on how to load the plugin see
Loading the Adams Durability Plugin.
Once loaded, the Adams Durability plugin will populate the Plot Type menu on the Contours tab of the animation dashboard with VonMises stress and strain options. See
Displaying Stress or Strain Contours for more details on how to turn on stress and strain contour plots.
The Adams Durability plugin also allows you to generate result sets for XY plotting based on the VonMises stress and strain quantities for the nonlinear flexible body. See
Plotting Stresses or Strains for more details on how to generate and plot these result sets.
Finally, the nonlinear flexible body result files generated during an analysis contain the complete set of stress and strain data (that is, other components besides VonMises). These can be post-processed directly in a finite element post-processor like Patran or SimXpert. These files are generated directly by the Adams analysis and Adams Durability is not required to use them in a finite element post-processor.
