Overview

Adams Solver can participate in co-simulations performed in the SIMulation Workbench® (SimWB) real time environment from Concurrent. This is achieved via extensions to Adams' support for the Functional Mockup Interface (FMI). A functional mockup (FMU) unit exported from Adams Controls or Adams Mechatronics within Adams View or Adams Car can be imported into SimWB.
The fixed step integration option within Adams Solver ensures that a fixed amount of work is completed in a given time to satisfy the requirements for a real time operating system (RTOS). This is achieved by limiting the number of Newton steps in the implicit solve (that is, number of iterations per Adams Solver integration step) to ensure a fixed amount of work is performed.
In this example you will prepare an Adams Car vehicle model for running in the real time environment by testing the performance/accuracy balance achievable with the fixed step integrator. Then you will export an FMU which you will subsequently import into SimWB. From there you can run the model in realtime optionally driving it with hardware-in-the-loop steering, brake and accelerator system.
The Adams Real Time Animation can also be used in combination with SimWB. To enable the animation, during the export of an FMU the geometry of the model needs to be included as explained in Getting Started Adams Real Time Animation.
