Order of Infinite Elements

The infinite elements are used to compute the SPL outside of the finite element area. The infinite elements can be interpreted as polynomial with a number interpolation points, equal to the order of the infinite elements. Higher order will increase the accuracy of the infinite elements, still order of 5-10 is in most of the cases sufficient.

Gap Tolerance

By default the Gap tolerance is twice the Distance defined in the Mesh tab. The Gap tolerance takes care that the coupling between the shrinkwrap and the structure surface is accurate. As rule of thumb twice the distance between the structure surface and the shrinkwrap can be used. The coupling quality can be evaluated in Actran VI, please do the Advanced Tuning Fork tutorial in the Getting Started Using Adams Acoustics guide to see how mapping can be tested in Actran VI, or contact the Actran support, support@fft.be for further information. Please note that an Actran VI license is necessary to do the visualization of the coupling quality, the Actran entry for Adams License is not sufficient.

Output Map

An output map is a 3D visualization of the acoustic mesh for each computed time step. The "Output Map Step" defines at which time step the results are output in the map. A value of "2" skips every 2nd step, "3" outputs the result at every 3rd step and so on.

Important:
Actran VI license is necessary to visualize of the output map, the "Actran Entry for Adams License" is not sufficient.
