Conversion of Legacy models

In this release we dropped the prior cylindrical gear element. You can still open your legacy models in Adams but is not possible to neither edit nor simulate it. This section explains the steps to convert your legacy models to be compatible with the current release of Gear AT.
Due to the complexity of different dependencies of the model it is not possible to convert the model in an automatic way. You need to follow these steps to convert the model to make use of the new cylindrical gear definitions. It is recommended to make backup of all model files until the process is successfully completed and validated.
1. Convert property files (FGF and PRO) from GUI – see section Gear AT convert FGF. You can select all files at once; use Lock FGF content to keep original profile curve
2. Open command line (F3) and reset Adams IDs with command:
model generate_ids zero_ids = yes
3. Save your model in command file under new name:
go to menu File – Export
set the File Type to Adams View Command File
enter different File Name than your legacy model name has and click OK
4. Open the command file (ASCII Template file for Adams/Car) with an editor to search and replace following UDE definitions and related values of UDE version numbers as shown in the table

Search for
under
replace with
gear_at_element
gear_at_element ude
gear_at_cylindrical_element
gear_at_gforce
gear_at_force ude
gear_at_cylindrical_gear_force

Search for variable
under
change variable value to
udedef_version
gear_at_element
variable
9.00.006
udedef_version
gear_at_force
9.00.006
5. Import command file and ignore all errors regarding missing variables
6. If you miss Step 2 Check for error messages such as:
ERROR: The ADAMS ID 8837 of .gear_at_cyl_2st_model.pinion_st2.gear_part.floating_marker_1 conflicts with the ADAMS ID of Marker entity .gear_at_cyl_2st_model.wheel_st2.gear_part.gear_force_ref.
7. To solve the ID conflicts just raise the number and repeat step 3 and 4 until all conflicts are solved
8. Save command file as in step 3 and delete the model
9. Import command file again and ignore all errors, if any
10. Modify all cylindrical gear at elements and in the Property File field replace *.fgf file with newly created *.cgp file in step 1
11. Modify all cylindrical gear at forces and in the Stiffness File field replace *.fgp to *.cgs, in case of the Gear FAST modeling approach just rename *.gcp file extension to *.cgf
12. For Adams/Car only:
rename all gear entities to ues_* to get parameters in the subsystem
Create and save new subsystem from template
