Adams Machinery > Cable > Create Cable

Create Cable

This icon launches the Create Cable wizard from which the following combination of Anchor Creation, Pulley Creation and Cable Wrapping can be created:

Anchor Creation

Anchors are needed to define the begin and end of an open cable.
Without anchors, cable wrapping creates a closed cable.
With anchors, cable wrapping creates an open cable.

Pulley Creation

Pulley specification is divided into two main sub components: the pulley property set which specifies the cross-sectional and material properties of the pulley and the pulleys themselves which refer to a given pulley property set and additionally specify the location and diameter of the pulley.

Cable Wrapping

Cable Wrapping is performed from the Cable System wizard by selecting the order through which the cable will be routed within the pulleys. It should be noted that other parameters besides the pulley and anchor locations can influence the cable wrapping and therefore when modified will force a re-wrapping of the cable; these parameters include:
Anchor:
Location of anchor
Pulley:
Location
Angular Mis-alignment (X)
Angular Mis-alignment (Y)
Diameter
Properties
Pulley properties:
Depth
Hertz_K (stiffness)
Hertz_E (exponent)
Cable properties:
Begin, track and end (that is, ordered list of routing elements)
Diameter
Preload
Formulation:
Simplified: gravity, inertia, disengagement
Discretized: mesh, zone, delta
Pulley_results, Span_results
If, outside of the wizard, one modifies the position of a pulley's or anchor's reference marker, a dependency notification is provided that the cable will need to be re-wrapped. Similarly, if any modifications are made manually (that is, outside of the Cable System wizard) which necessitate the re-wrapping of the cable a dependency notification is provided that the cable will need to be re-wrapped.
